I Can Cook

One of the nice things about going home is the chance to learn how to cook meals I had always loved when I was a kid but never had a chance to make on my own. During my recent trip home, I asked my mom to include me in the making of lasagna. If anyone knows how to cook or has ever cooked lasagna knows that this is no difficult task and could easily be considered a basic level of baking.

Regardless of the level of difficulty, I was happy to learn and excited to cook with my mom. Since my grandma had died, we had simplified holiday cooking and meals. Meals for the family could be done by one person and having more than one cook was almost a hazard unless each had their own tasks that didn’t overlap.

My mom kind of laughed when I asked for her to teach me because there really wasn’t much to learn. I was thrilled, though. We were making a simple lasagna that meant we weren’t cooking and adding meat. The longest part of the prep process was getting the noodles ready. After the noodles were cooked the layering process began.

I’ve eaten countless lasagnas before but I never actually knew the specific layers other than cheese, noodles, and sauce. We quickly put everything together. It took a little longer than expected only because I took so many photos to recount the event later. I’m sure my mom was trying not to roll her eyes as I stopped at every layer.

Once everything was put together, we put the lasagna in the oven and started on the sides. After everything was hot and ready, we made our plates and enjoyed the meal. Everything was cooked perfectly although I may have put a little too much sauce.

After a tasty dinner, I was really proud and happy I was able to recreate a childhood favorite.

Random Winning

Last week I was incredibly happy because I found out that I won a VIP experience for the X Ambassadors concert from Z104 radio station in Madison. It was really last minute so I wasn’t able to find anyone to go with me to the Meet and Greet with the band but my roommate was able to go to the concert with me.

It was really crazy honestly because one day I was just having a normal week and then all of a sudden I was taking off work and heading to a concert. The Meet and Greet was really quick but they did perform a sound check too. It was awesome because we were able to hear their most popular song with no screaming fans and still get the full theater experience. The set was tasteful and the guys were so nice. I couldn’t have asked for a better concert to win VIP tickets for.

I had a little bit of time between the Meet and Greet and the show so I walked around the state capital building and then sat in a coffee shop until the show started. Forgot how beautiful the Capitol building really is well though I was sad that my friend who works there was already gone for the day. I had to wait quite a while before Delaney got there because she was in class right before the show. It was fine though because I wasn’t really picky about where I stood since the concert was free.

It took a while before the concert got going. There were two performers before them but when the X Ambassadors finally came out it was worth the wait! They put on a spectacular show and I was so happy I was able to attend. The lighting was great and it was easy to tell the guys were having a blast. The main singers dance moves were pretty funny but I think my favorite part was the vocals. He has a huge range and I was impressed with how high he could actually sing. It was a top night.

Since Delaney drove to meet me, I even got a ride home and went to bed with a smile on my face. I have no doubt that this was the best Tuesday I had in a long time!
